So what’s happening? Here’s an overview....
London Road North, Station Square, London Road South, the
Esplanade and Royal Plain are just some of the areas that
will benefit from the extensive programme of work.
Prominent buildings will be restored, attractive trees planted,
new street furniture installed, including seating, litter
bins and cycle stands. Lighting will be improved, pedestrianised
areas extended, paths widened, car parks enhanced, bus lanes
provided and cycle ways and crossing points upgraded.
CCTV coverage will be extended in the town, and security
measures put in place in the yacht basin to protect the lifeboat
and historic boats which are a crucial part of Lowestoft’s
maritime heritage. Improved signs will point residents and
tourists towards local attractions and facilities, and variable
messaging signs at bus stops will provide more up-to-date
information. A wealth of new features will include a bandstand
at Royal Plain.
This is just a taste of what’s in store – read
all the sections of our website for further details!
With work ongoing over two years or so a certain amount of
disruption is inevitable. Please be patient because it will
be worth it.
