Kirkley’s bright future

Marine ParadeKirkley is undergoing major regeneration through schemes which will affect the whole area.

Southern Relief Road
This will give traffic a choice of routes through Kirkley, reducing through traffic on the existing A12 road thus making the area more appealing to shoppers.

Waveney Sunrise Scheme
This is a £14.7 million image enhancement scheme covering Lowestoft’s traditional town centre, Kirkley and seafront access. In parallel with the opening of the Southern Relief Road, Kirkley’s environment will be improved with new street furniture, lighting, trees and traffic calming measures.

Lowestoft Resort Regeneration Project
A Seafront Garden Scheme is being designed to improve the seafront from the Royal Plain to Kensington Gardens, regenerating the promenade, public gardens and the beach facilities. The scheme will also include improvements to the waterfront at Oulton Broad, encouraging stronger links between the broad and the sea.

Riverside Business Park
Situated adjacent to Waveney Drive, the business park is fronted by the Riverside Business Centre and the unique Honda Brand Centre owned by PFK Ling. Most of the available land here has now been allocated and is awaiting development.

The South Quay Development
A large retail development with associated leisure attractions is being built between the Riverside Business Park and the bridge. It will include a major supermarket as well as a cluster of other well-known retailers.

Urban Regeneration Company
A company is being setup to focus on the development of the remaining land designated for regeneration. This will cover the area from the inner harbour through to Oulton Broad, including part of Kirkley. The redevelopment of strategic sites within the centre of Kirkley is seen as crucial as it will link the beach with the South Quay Development.

Haven Marina on Lake Lothing
A 140-berth marina capable of accommodating vessels up to 20 metres long has been opened by Associated British Ports on Lake Lothing. The marina is fully equipped and has its own bar, restaurant and associated facilities.
