To ensure that detailed designs broadly follow the concept
designs, provide continuity between the two geographical areas,
specify high quality construction, whilst promoting innovative,
imaginative and cost effective aims, a Design Steering Group
(DSG) is proposed. It is intended that the DSG would include
representatives from, the concept design teams The Landscape
Partnership and WS Atkins, representatives from WDC and SCC,
and as appropriate, representatives from EEDA and CABE.
The DSG will be directly responsible for recommending a range
of design themes and material specifications that should be
applied to projects in both concept areas. The recommendations
will also specify which aspects of the scheme as a whole the
themes and specifications are to apply to. A carefully considered
balance is required between providing continuity across the
scheme and the promotion of innovative and imaginative designs
crafted to enhance specific areas of the scheme.
All project designs will be submitted to the DSG for initial
Concept Appraisal, designs will go to the appraisal team within
whose geographical area they fall. The proposed designs, together
with the appraisal teams recommendations, will then pass to
the full steering group for consideration and recommendations
to the Management Group. The DSG is not intended as a decision-maker,
the Management Group will make final design decisions. However
it is expected that most decisions will be a ratification
of the DSG recommendations.
A joint presentation from the concept designers has been
arranged. The purpose of the presentation is to show how they
could work within or develop the DSG proposed framework to
effectively manage the design element of the scheme, as a
whole and for individual projects
